The Cornelius Blueberry Farm was started in 1989 when Alex and Joe Cornelius traded in their fishing boat for Blueberry plants. Their initial investment included 17 acres of plants. In 1993, they started their own processing facility which today does custom packing of frozen and fresh berries. In 1996, they added a waterline and put in high density plants. In 1997, Alex and Joe won the McGregor Mayo Agricultural Award for Noteworthy Contribution to the Progress of Agriculture in Ware County. They are currently members of the cooperative Michigan Blueberry Growers Association and Naturipe Farms.
In 2006, the Cornelius Blueberry Farm expanded and was transformed into J&B Blueberries Farm INC., owners Joe and Brenda Cornelius, and Cornelius Farms, LLC, owners Alex and Cathy Cornelius.
Alex and Cathy have 2 daughters, Heather and Megan. Heagan Farms and the Heagan Processing Facility are named for their girls.
The Cornelius Farm, LLC won the AgSouth Farm Family of the year award in 2000. Certifications have been achieved from these third-party audits. They are Global Gap, PRIMUS, and AIB certified with superior ratings year after year.
